Who are the best wrestlers and coaches in NCAA Division I?
The amateur wrestling website D1CW (d1CollegeWrestling.net) resurrected its annual Coaches Poll Thursday (after a one-year break), months before the debut of the 2011-12 wrestling season.
The 2011 D1CW Coaches Poll questioned assistant and head wrestling coaches from every conference in the nation, seeking responses in more than a dozen categories, including:
- Best double-leg takedown
- Best variety of takedowns
- Toughest on top
- Best athlete
- Best wrestler pound-per-pound
- Best head coach… and best assistant coach
In addition to listing the top three vote-getters in each category, D1CW incorporates a quote from one of the coaches as to why they voted for a particular wrestler as part of a “Coaches Analysis.”
Among the individual wrestlers who were the top vote-getters: 2011 NCAA Division I wrestling champs Kyle Dake of Cornell University, Jordan Oliver of Oklahoma State, and University of Michigan’s Kellen Russell.
